Stephen R. Gansel's Obituary
Stephen Ray Gansel, 46, of Alliance, died on Thursday, February 2, 2006, following an auto accident in Washington Township. Born in Alliance on July 16, 1959, he had lived in the Alliance all of his life. A 1977 graduate of Alliance High School, he was a self employed contractor and owner of Gansel s Drywall. Steve was a very involved member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. He was a member of their Nomination Committee and the Property Committee. Most recently, he served as Church Council President. He was also a member of the Christopher Columbus Society and the B. P. O. Elks Lodge #457. He was a past member of the Parkway Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. Steve had a passion for softball and had been a Head Coach for his daughter Carly s team for eight years. He was involved with the Alliance Marlington Girl s Softball League as a Board Member for five years, holding the position of President for the last three years. He was also instrumental in getting the concession stand built at Earley s Hill. Steve s dedication was recognized in 2005 when he received the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity. He is survived by his wife, Sally J. (Fahey) Gansel; their daughters, Emily Jo Gansel, a student in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Allison Rae Gansel of the home and Carly Elizabeth Gansel of the home. Also surviving are his mother, Ann (Rawlings) Gansel and her friend, Joe Stabile of Alliance; father, D. Gordon Gansel and wife Barbara Gansel, of Alliance; mother-in-law, Mary Jo (Turner) Fahey of Alliance; sister, Jan Lofgren of Homeworth; sister, Linda Scwallie and husband, Mike Scwallie, of North Canton; sister-in-law, Cindy Wertz and husband, Ken, of Lisbon; brother-in-law, Randy Fahey and wife, Evelyne, of Sunnyvale, CA; nephews, Michael and Gregory Scullion and Mathieux Fahey; nieces, Katie and Laura Lofgren and Lauren Fahey. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, L. Edward Fahey; and an uncle, Jacob Gansel. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, February 6, 2006, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and also at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church on Tuesday, February 7, 2006, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dean F. Lewis, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
