Raymond "Ray" Paganelli's Obituary
Raymond "Ray" Paganelli, 91, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 5:25 a.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1918 in Brockway, PA, and lived in Alliance most of his life. Mr. Paganelli was a veteran of WWII where he served on LST 1014 in the South Pacific Theater. He continued a close relationship with his able shipmates from LST 1014 to the end by attending reunions. Ray was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an accomplished welder at Transue and Williams in Alliance from where he retired in 1980, a high average bowler, and loved to share his artistic talent with family and friends. His warm smile and love of life and family and friends will be remembered by many in the Alliance community. Mr. Paganelli was a member of the Christopher Columbus Lodge, Dante Aligheri Lodge, VFW Post 1036, Alliance Senior Center, and the Alliance Elks Lodge. He is survived by his two sisters, Esther Carter of Galion and Edith Cironi of Alliance; three sister-in-laws, Doreen (Roger) Henning of The Villages, FL, Elenor Lyons of Arvada, CO, and Eilene Wagner of Golden, CO; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Alice (Sella) Paganelli; his parents, Jack and Mary (Castina) Paganelli; two sisters, Lena Aanderud and Laura Polinori; a brother, Irvin Paganelli; and close friend, Mrs. Doris Chance. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, September 11, 2009, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Donald L. Feicht, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Gregory Johnson and the staff of PCU at Alliance Community Hospital for their especially caring support.
