Joseph V. "Joe" Cotton's Obituary
Joseph V. "Joe" Cotton, 77, of Alliance, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at 7:49 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on August 13, 1932 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. A graduate of Alliance High School, Joe retired from the Ford Motor Co., where he was employed as a machinist. Mr. Cotton was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 166, the V.F.W. Post 1036, the U.A.W., the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a life member of the Dante Alighieri Society. In his past-time, he loved to hunt and fish and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Covert of Columbiana and Tina (Brian) Stuchell of Alliance; three sons, Joe (Theresa) Cotton of Louisburg, MO, Paul (Diane) Cotton of Mogadore and Bret (Lisa) Stuchell of Alliance; ten grandchildren, Rachel, Erica, Ron, Carol, Tim, Nick, Trina, Tyler, Alec and Erin; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Lena Strickler of Canton; a sister-in-law, Gloria Cotton of Gates Mills; two brothers, Sam Cotton of Maximo and Vince Cotton of Alliance; several nieces and nephews; and close family friends, the Bertha Simmons family. Preceding him in death was his wife, Carol (Derr) Cotton on December 21, 1969; his parents, Joseph and Providence (Demmia) Cotton; a sister, Josephine Russell; two sisters-in-law, Judy and Jackie Cotton; a brother, Atsey Cotton; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Russell and Jim Strickler. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, February 1, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
