To: Tom and Terri, Jim, Peaches, Kathy and Ardie Chain January 5, 2013 I am writing this note in honor of your mom and the many pleasant memories we have of her life as it intertwined with our lives over these many years. I have always been a little out of sync with the family generational lines being the youngest of the cousins. I am actually closer in age to you guys than to my first cousin Jean - your Mom. I have not had time to consider all of the events over the years but there are several that stick out as special memories: 1939 - I heard my mother Margaret talk a lot about the great trip my Dad and Mom took with Jean and Ann Louise when they drove from Pennsylvania to the great Northwest back in 1939. I assume the trip must have taken a month. I remember seeing pictures of them at Grand Coulee Dam which was under construction on the Columbia River back in 1939. As I recall Dad and Mom had a real struggle keeping the two young girls out of trouble as every young guy on the west coast were interested in them! I always thought that was part of the reason my parents waited so long to have my sister Anna and I!!!! Late 1950s These were the difficult days for both of our families. We lived in Alliance and you guys were over in Oil City and later over on Route 14 in Beloit. These were the days after my father had died in a mining accident in Arizona and your Dad had contracted polio and couldnt work. They were days when our moms worked hard to keep us in our clothes and homes. I remember often traveling over to visit you all and Mom and your Mom would spend good times just supporting each other while sharing lifes problems. Early 1960s By now I was dating Kay and we would sometimes still go over to Beloit to visit. I remember several Christmas holidays when we went over just to get a chance to visit with you all. What a joy even in those days to see you all growing up. I remember how impressed I was with your dads interest in sports and raising you correctly and your mom always working. In 1964 Kay and I were married and were so fortunate to have Tom and Jim in the wedding as groomsmen and Terri helping with the reception and cake. Jeans legacy is the wonderful family she raised with a respect for God and Country, involved in service to others, and living out a vital faith in God. We are blessed by her life and the life of each of her wonderful children.
