Edith R. Santoro's Obituary
Edith R. Santoro, 94, of Alliance, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016 with her family at her side.
Born on March 24, 1922 in Alliance, Ohio to Settimio and Angela (Scipioni) Santoro, she lived in Alliance for all of her life.
Edith was a graduate of the June Class of 1940 from Alliance High School and a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
Edith was employed as office personnel for several area physicians: Dr. W.E.Sag (32 years), Dr. Thakkar (2 years), Dr. Lao (12 years), and retired. After her retirement, she worked part -time for Dr. Fitzelle, Dr. Josey and Immediate Medical Service Clinic.
She was a member of YWCA and past volunteer for well-child clinic; Alliance Women's Club past member and served on Program Committee & Christmas Decorating Committee; Bel-Joy Card Club; and was a volunteer reader at the former Morgan Elementary School. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, quilting, crossword & cryptogram puzzles and cake decorating.
Survivors include nephew, whom she raised, Nick (Josephine) Pietrocola of Alliance, OH; niece, whom she raised, Elma Pietrocola (Fred) Kirven of Brunswick, OH; four nephews, Ray (Camille) Santoro of Alliance, OH, Albert (Pat) Retone of Alliance, OH, Armand (Theresa) Santoro of McClain, VA, Gary Santoro of Ramon, CA; three nieces, Christine (Matt) Cross of Saint Petersburg, FL, Kathy (Terry) Wolf of Alliance, OH, Priscilla (Wayne) Schlabach of Durnham, NC; three great-nieces, Colleen Kirven (Daniel) Lucarell, Carrie Kirven (David) Huspaska, Stephanie Pietrocola (Craig) Unckrich; and several great-nieces & nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Settimio and Angela Santoro; two sisters, Adele (Santoro) Pietrocola, and Julia Santoro Retone; 2 infant sisters (unnamed); two brothers, Armando (Anne) Santoro, and Umberto Santoro; 1 infant brother (unnamed); a niece, whom she raised, Joanna Pietrocola; niece, Margaret (Don) Foster; nephew, Frank Retone, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 10:00 am at Regina Coeli Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Ruggieri as celebrant. Entombment will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park.
