I started taking Communion to Edith when she became Homebound in February, 2009. For five years I would see my friend for about 30 minutes, once a month. I always enjoyed her sharp mind, her hospitality, her beautiful welcoming smile, her lovely brown and her thick white hair.
In February, 2014, we started our "lunch dates". I would provide the lunch one week and she would the next week. These lunches turned into "cooking classes". Edith showed me how to make many Italian dishes and my favorite dessert "Butter Biscuits".
Our 30 minute chats turned into three hour weekly conversations. I never tired of her childhood srories about her family; and later how she became "Auntie" to Joanna, Nicki and Elma. She perserved through many tragedies, personal health issues and remained quick witted, intelligent and interesting. Edith Santoro, I love you!
