Duane T. Schafer's Obituary
Duane T. Schafer, 71, of Alliance, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio.
Born on March 19, 1947 in Canton, to Harry L. and Katherine S. (Harris) Schafer, he lived in Alliance all of his life and was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church.
A 1965 graduate of Alliance High School, he also graduated in 1996 from the University of Akron with a degree in Community Services Technology, fulfilling his desire to work in the Chemical Dependency Field.
Duane was a Vietnam Veteran, serving our country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Navy Gold Star, TAPS and the VFW.
Duane enjoyed soap box car racing, race car driving, Indy Car races, writing, and drawing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo (Giordano) Schafer, whom he married on October 1, 1983; three daughters, Stacie L. Ferrante of Reno, NV, Katherine M. Schafer of SC and Molly E. Schafer of Kent; two sons, Patrick M. (Jaclyn Roszkowski) Schafer of St. Petersburg, FL and Scott T. Schafer of Alliance; two grandchildren, Jacob R. Ferrante and Oliver T. Schafer; a brother, Keith Schafer of Alliance; a sister, Lavelle Schmid of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his son, Ryan D. Schafer - US Navy; and his parents.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Regina Coeli Catholic Church. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Regina Coeli Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Ruggieri, as celebrant.
