He was one of a kind. A great boss, but even a better friend. Years could easily go by, but he never forgot any former member of his staff. I'll miss hanging out with him shooting the s**t. I'll miss his advice, his wisdom of how things really work. He was a true icon in Alliance, and among the Mt. Union students. Love you big guy! Thanks for all of the memories.
He will be missed by all who met him over the years R.I.P. Doug.

News of Doug's passing has brought up a lot of memories. He was my first real boss. I was a carhop for him during my high school years in the early 80s. Looking back on the experience he taught me a lot. I must admit at first I was a little afraid of him with his big presence and big voice. He expected a lot out of his employees but not more than we could give. He knew when to push me (like making me deliver orders to the Naborhood Inn – I was scared of that place back then!). And he knew when to be understanding. He took care of things when a car full of rowdy boys made me feel uncomfortable. He managed a crew of high schoolers through dramas and traumas, which must not have been easy. My memory is that he was committed to us and we were committed to him. I always enjoyed going to work, especially when I got “promoted” to “behind the counter” and got to practice holding four large rootbeers in one hand while filling them from the tap! Now if only I could remember his nickname for me.....there must have been one....
He's left quite a mark on the Alliance community. He will be sorely missed.

Doug was one of nicest people you ever want know my husband dave and I always tried to go in place when ever we could my hubby loved the big stew sandwhich !! Doug was so kind to us . we will miss your smiling face doug . may the comfort of family and friends be close take care .😇😇😇
(Adam Big A Tuel) I remember my first day working at dougs I didn't even know how to turn on a grill , now I get asked all the time where did you learn to cook? I learned @ Dougs but I learned alot more I learned how to be a good person i learned respect, and i learned love ... Im not gonna cry Im not gonna cry f it Im crying I miss doug what he taught me cant be bought in any college or university ... I send my love to Norma and family your in my prayers Love Adam...
