William F. Thompson's Obituary
William F. Thompson, 76, of Alliance, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Alliance Community Hospital. A lifelong resident of Alliance, he was born on March 23, 1933. Bill was a graduate of St. Joseph Elementary School and a 1951 graduate of Alliance High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving from 1951 to 1955. Bill retired from the Ohio Edison Company, where he was employed as a dispatcher for 40 years. Mr. Thompson was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church and was very active in church activities. He was a member of Knight of Columbus Council #558 and B. P. O. Elks #467. In his past-time, he enjoyed Hot Stove Baseball. Bill is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Jerri" (Folk) Thompson whom he married on June 14, 1958; children, Mary Liberator of Canton, Susan Sowell of Alliance, William F. (Amanda) Thompson II of Cedar Lake, IN, Jennifer Rogers of Alliance, and Larry (Tricia) Thompson of Alliance; 12 grandchildren, Melissa, Nicholas & wife, Chaylee, and Johnny & wife Amber Liberator, Justin, Jared, Kristan, and Kaylee Sowell, Billy and Abbey Thompson, Sarah Rogers, and Tori and Joe Thompson; two great-grandchildren; Grace and Noah Liberator; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Elma (Karper) Thompson; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Sigler; and a brother, Thomas Thompson. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
