William M. Martin's Obituary
William M. Martin, 86, of Alliance, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 9:10 a.m. at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Born on May 9, 1927 in Alliance, he lived in Alliance all of his life. He was a 1946 graduate of Alliance High School and attended Miami University of Ohio. A veteran of WWII, he served our country in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church and head usher for many years. He also previously served on Session, was a Sunday School teacher and worked with the Boy Scouts. He retired from Alliance Machine, where he was employed as a draftsman after 32 years of service. Mr. Martin was also a member of the Alliance Area Senior Center. In his past-time, he enjoyed gardening, walking and especially loved cooking and baking. Survivors include his wife, Faye (Moles) Martin, whom he married on July 16, 1982 at First United Presbyterian Church; a son, Christopher (Ellen) Martin of New Orleans; a son Jeffrey Martin; three step-daughters, Elaine (Art) Tuttle of Medina, Carol Hutchinson of Brighton, MI and Sharon (Ron) Ryles of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew; and his favorite cat, Bud. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ransom and Edna (Sutton) Martin; a sister, Rosemary Roberts; and a brother, Ted Martin. The family will receive friends at First United Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James McCurdy officiating. Private family interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Alliance City Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Avenue, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
