William E. Edwards' Obituary
William E. Edwards, 84, of Alliance, died on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at 8:14 a.m. at Mercy Medical Center. He was born on October 21, 1923 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. William was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the USS San Diego, the first ship to sail into Tokyo Harbor for the signing of the surrender. Mr. Edwards retired from the Teledyne Monarch Rubber Co. in Hartville, where he was employed as a machinist. He enjoyed family life and gardening. William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores (Moretti) Edwards, whom he married on November 22, 1947; four sons, David (Arlene) Edwards of North Canton, Thomas (Silvia) Edwards of Hartville, Ronald (Cherie) Edwards of Alliance and Dennis (Peggy) Edwards of Rootstown; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen (David) Davis of Columbus and Betty Jean Mattern of Theodore, AL; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Ruth (Rush) Edwards, Sr. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
