William Thomas Dailey's Obituary
William Thomas Dailey, Sr., 71, of Alliance, the sweetest man in our world, went to the Lord on May 20, 2003, at 11:00 p.m. He died in his sleep, as he wished. Born in Malvern on July 13, 1931, he lived in Alliance most of his life. He attended Alliance High School before joining the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War and in the Ohio Army National Guard. Mr. Dailey was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a lifetime member of American Legion Post # 166, and had played Santa for the Alliance area nursing homes for 40 years. He retired from Transue & Williams as a hammerman, where he had served for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Lois (Salisbury) Dailey (they were married by Father Michael Gowron in 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary next month); four daughters, Robin (Willie) Scalero of Alliance, Mary (Zeke) Fernandez of Alliance, Cheryl (Terry) Schmachtenberger of Paris, and Laurie Dailey of Taunton, Mass; one son, William (Cheryl) Dailey, Jr. of Alliance; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Sayre of Alliance, Mary Tripp of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Gaynell Fuson of Wadsworth; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Leo James and Elizabeth Nellie (Carson) Dailey; one sister, Myrtle Miller; and two brothers, Francis Bud Dailey and infant brother, Richard. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, May 22, 2003, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Department of Defense Military Honors Detail, the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
