William N. "Bill" Agnew's Obituary
William N. "Bill" Agnew, 85, of 56 W. Perry St., Alliance, died on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, at 1:40 p.m. at Altercare of Mentor. A lifelong resident of Alliance, he was born on September 11, 1921, and graduated from Alliance High School. Bill was a veteran of World War II and served three years as a field sergeant in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. After completing his service in the Army, he was employed by Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products as an ultrasonic inspector. He retired in 1983 after 38 years of service. An avid aviation enthusiast, Bill was one of the few first pilots to fly the brand new Taylor Craft airplane, made in his hometown of Alliance. A private licensed pilot, he was a member of the Taylor Craft Flying Club and a 50 year member of AOPA, (Aircraft Owner & Pilot Association) and was recently honored with a longevity member s pin. Bill owned 16 acres in Mahoning County that was affectionately called "His Ranch" where he raised horses and cows. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jennie (Comsia) Agnew whom he married on August 20, 1944; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra & Delmas Schock of Mentor; a son-in-law, Corey Clayton of Alliance; one granddaughter, Trisha Schock of Fairport Harbor, OH; three sisters, Anna Trombetta of Alliance, Crystal Burns of East Liverpool, and Dorothy Thompson of Kingman, AZ; three brothers, Ray Agnew of San Diego, CA, John Agnew of Kingman, AZ, and Don Agnew of Gilford Lake, OH; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved "Abby Kay", an Australian Shepherd. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Clayton; parents, Wilbert H. and Olive (Boyce) Agnew; and a brother, Wilbert Agnew. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14, 2006, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert of Regina Coeli Catholic Church officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
