Wilbert B. "Woody" Wike's Obituary
Wilbert B. "Woody" Wike, Sr, 79, of Alliance, died on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 7:18 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born in Wilkinsburg, PA, on March 18, 1925, raised in North Benton, and lived most of his life in Alliance. Mr. Wike was a U.S. Army veteran and had served during World War II as a gun crewman in Germany, Italy, and North Africa. In 1983, Mr. Wike retired from the Morgan Engineering Company as a drill press operator after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Salem Hunt Club, was a former Cub Scout Master and a former Boy Scout Master, and was an avid train hobbyist. Woody is survived by a daughter, Nona Marie (Richard) Ketler of Alliance; three sons, Wilbert "Butch" (Kristina) Wike, Jr. of Kissimmee, FL, Donald M. Wike of Kissimmee, FL, and Ronald (Hariett) Wike of Gallatin, TN; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude A. (McPherson) Wike on July 20, 1992 (they were married on October 11, 1943); a great-grandson, Matthew Wike; and his parents, Frederick and Myrtle (Detchon) Wike. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Edwards of the Hendersonville Baptist Church of Hendersonville, TN, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
