Walter H. Nanes' Obituary
Walter H. Nanes, 88, of Alliance, died on Monday, February 25, 2008, at 7:45 p.m. at Canterbury Villa of Alliance. He was born on July 18, 1919 in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. A graduate of Alliance High School, he was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church and also the Infant of Prague. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the B.P.O. Elks 467 and the Alliance Senior Center. Walter retired from B & W Research, where he was employed as a supply & inventory clerk. From 1937 to 1952 he was a grocer at Nanes I.G.A. Market. For more than 25 years, Mr. Nanes was a ticket taker at the Mount Union Stadium for Alliance High School and Mount Union college games. He enjoyed golf, playing bridge and square dancing with his wife. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Vera V. (Corradi) Nanes on March 23, 2006 whom he married on September 30, 1943; his parents, George and Katherine (Tec) Nanes; and four brothers, George Nanes, Jr., Fritz, William and Carl Unger. The family will receive friends at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
