Walter S. "Walt" Merriman's Obituary
Walter S. "Walt" Merriman, 64, of Alliance, died on Friday, October 1, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. at his home. Born in Salem on March 21, 1940, he had lived in Alliance most of his life. He had served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Jacksonville, Fl. Mr. Merriman retired from American Steel Foundries in 2001 after 38 years of service and had been very active with the Alliance Hot Stove, having coached and managed for many years. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Buchanan) Merriman, whom he married on Oct. 4, 1958; two daughters, Kay (Redd) Lucas of Sebring and Debra (David) Watson of Beloit; three sons, Ted (Emily) Merriman of Fremont, MI, Jon (Karen) Merriman of Alliance and Bob (Tiffanie) Merriman of Alliance; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, George "Ted" Holk of Alliance; a niece, Charlene Stevenson of New Jersey; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita (Morrison) Merriman; one sister, Virginia Villars; and several aunts & uncles. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
