Vivian Cleo Mundy's Obituary
Vivian Cleo Mundy, 79, of Minerva, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 4:48 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. She was born in Akron on October 18, 1923, and was a graduate of Akron South High School. She had been a resident in the Summit and Stark County areas for most all of her life. A veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy, she was stationed in Philadelphia as a Lab Technician at the Naval Hospital. Mrs. Mundy was a former treasurer for Summit County Schools and had been a volunteer at St. Thomas Hospital for many years. After moving to Alliance, she became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of their choir for many years. She continued her volunteerism at the Alliance Community Hospital as a Pink Lady and later became their Director of Volunteers. Her passion for helping others spanned from 1942 until her retirement. Mrs. Mundy was a former member of the Board of Directors at the Alliance Salvation Army and was a Past President of the Alliance Community Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Alliance Senior Citizens and loved to play bridge. She is survived by her husband, Waldemar M. Mundy of 17 years; her five children, Wanda (Jim) Gill of Oxford, NC, Tom (Alice) Woodburn of Cuyahoga Falls, Cyndee (John) Farrell of Marlboro, Terry Woodburn of Alliance, and Rick (Caprice) Woodburn of Estero, FL; 13 grandchildren, Sean, Kevin, Jenny, Mary, Wendy, Danny, Katie, John, Jim, Michael, Jeff, Jared and Conner; 6 great- grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Curley of Akron, a brother, Frank (Ann) McVan of Geneva, OH, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael Leo and Vivian (Boyle) McVan; a husband Robert DeForest; a sister, Gloria Jatich; and two brothers, Donald Mc Van and Vernon Lawrence McVan. The family will receive friends at the Sharer- Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, June 15, 2003, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, June 16, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. James Kolp as celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Mineral City Cemetery in Mineral City, Ohio.
