Virgil Eugene Dutton's Obituary
Virgil Eugene Dutton, Sr. 76, of Alliance, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at his daughter's home. Born in Alliance on January 7, 1926, he had lived most of his life in the Alliance area. Mr. Dutton attended Alliance High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and was awarded the Presidential Citation, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Previous owner of Dutton's Market and D & B Carri Out, he also served on the Alliance Fire Department from 1950 until retiring in May of 1975. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Life Member of the Disables American Veterans, Chapter 50 and a member of the Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio, Inc. Survivors include daughter & son-in- law, Ada and John Briden, Jr. of Alliance; grandson and wife, John III and Julie Briden, of Alliance; grandson James Briden of Alliance; sister-in-law, Ada Monter of Alliance; niece & husband, Pauline and Jeff Smith of Alliance; one great nephew, one great niece, one great-great nephew, one great-great niece; and a son, Virgil Dutton Jr. Preceding him in death were his wife, Florence O. (Ranft) Dutton on Dec. 4, 2000 (they were married on Oct. 30, 1945); his parents, Dale and Ethel (Miller) Dutton; and a brother, Oliver Dutton. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, August 26, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Kowaleski and the Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at the Alliance City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 25, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
