Velma M. Richards' Obituary
Velma M. (Goodnite) Richards, 93, of Alliance, was reunited with her husband, James, on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:55 a.m.
Born on December 25, 1921 in New Haven, West Virginia to Wayne and Goldie (Crawford) Goodnite, she lived in Alliance for most of her life and was member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Velma loved playing bingo, gardening, attending garage sales and having garage sales. She especially enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Swain of Alliance; a son, James O. (Sally) Richards of Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Michael (Cassie) Swain, Tricia (Tom) Schmoyer, Melissa (Jimmy) Richards de Campana, Susan (Scott) Smith and James (Lisa) Richards; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winifred (Ray) Clarke of New Haven, WV and Naomi (Lewis) Young of New Haven, WV; three brothers, Jimmie (Janice) Goodnite of New Haven, WV, Bobbie Goodnite of New Haven, WV and Jack (Judy) Goodnite of Louisville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, AnnaLouise Goodnite, Thelma Goodnite, Virgie Goodnite and Erma Jane Wright; and two brothers, Howard and Billie Goodnite.
The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Her Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am, with Rev. Timothy Muse, of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.
Velma’s interment along with her husband, James, with military honors, will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
