Velma M. "Cricket" Hoopes' Obituary
Velma M. "Cricket" Hoopes, 87, of Alliance, died on Monday, March 10, 2008, at 9:35 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. She was born on December 14, 1920 in Columbiana County, and had lived in Alliance for over 40 years. Cricket was employed as a cashier at Shaffer s Restaurant from 1961 until May 2004. Cricket was an adventurous person. She enjoyed traveling, playing games of chance and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Loeta Gibson of Covington, GA and Debbie (Lovell) Jones of Alliance; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her two sons, Larry Hoopes in 2001 and Gary Hoopes in 2006; her parents, Howard and Hazel (Colburson) Caldwell; a sister, Loeta Shaffer; and a brother, Roger Caldwell. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. At Cricket's request, there are no services.
