U. Vincent Waggenspack's Obituary
U. Vincent Waggenspack, 82, of Alliance, died on Monday, March 14, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at Community Care Center. Born in Geismar, Louisiana, on October 21, 1922, Vincent graduated from Dutchtown High School and lived in Alliance for the past 56 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from Mount Union College in 1953 and began his teaching career at Canton South. He was a beloved history teacher with the Alliance School System for many years and retired in 1982. Mr. Waggenspack was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a former member of the Alliance Historical Society. One of his hobbies was making and caning chairs. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia (Gabor) Waggenspack whom he married on August 20, 1949; two daughters, Dr. Beth Waggenspack of Blacksburg, VA, and Joan (Brian) Skidmore of Alliance; a son, Dean (Rosaleen) Waggenspack of Kettering, OH; eight grandchildren, Courtney, Stephen, Nathan, Luke, Sasha, and William Waggenspack, Nicholas and Bryce Skidmore; a brother, Harold; and 33 nieces and nephews, their spouses and families. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, John Willis and Julia (Landry) Waggenspack; sisters, Thelma, Wilda, Patricia and Rosemary; and brothers, Wilbur, Warren, Melvin, Irwin and Linny. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
