Tony Gecina's Obituary
Tony Gecina, 85, of Alliance, died on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 6:15 a.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on October 1, 1922, in Buhl, MN, and lived in Alliance most of his life. Tony attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from Alliance High School. He continued his education at the Coyne Electric Vocation School of Chicago. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific with the 27th Infantry and fought on beach heads of five different islands. He was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. Tony was employed as an electrical engineer at the Morgan Engineering Company. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks and enjoyed woodworking and copper work. Tony is survived by his wife, Theresa M. (Haidet) Gecina whom he married on June 14, 1947; three daughters, Joan Gecina of Alliance, Jane (Clyde) Combs of Alliance, and Janice (Ted) Mihaila of North Canton; six grandchildren, Tricia (Larry) Thompson, Molly (Adam) Zdrojewski, Maggie Combs, Ty Mihaila, Cody Combs, and Carly Mihaila; two great-grandchildren, Tori Thompson and Joe Thompson; and one niece, Stephanie (Duchon) Leonardos of Ada, MI. Preceding him in death were his parents, Anton and Amelia (Grdisha) Gecina; and a sister, Stephanie Duchon; and a nephew, Ronald Duchon. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Seifert, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
