Thomas P. Schaefer's Obituary
Thomas Paul Schaefer, age 87, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born on June 18, 1937 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Harry J. and Alma (Schmitt) Schaefer.
Tom graduated from Alliance High School in 1956, where he was a standout athlete both in football and basketball. In basketball, he broke several Alliance High School and Stark County area records, making him one of the greats of Aviator sports history. He received a full scholarship to play for The Ohio State Buckeyes and later went on to play semi-pro for several basketball leagues. He is a member of Alliance High School Hall of Fame.
Tom worked in sales most of his life, traveling through out Ohio and surrounding states. He worked with Morton Pole Buildings and helped with construction of several shopping malls, including the Carnation Mall.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Tom and Stefani; grandchildren, Race and Siena; nieces and nephews, Maryann, Jill, Scott, John and Tim; and a brother, Dick.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Harry; sisters-in-law, Mary and Jackie; nephews, Tom and Steve; and a niece, Kathy.
The family would like to thank Donna and her crew, for the faithful care and support during the time of illness and decline. The family would also like to thank Kendra and all the team members and staff of Aultman Alliance Hospice.
There will be no services, per Tom’s final wishes.
