Thomas L. Mercer's Obituary
Thomas L. Mercer, 69, of Alliance, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Born on February 27, 1942 in Alliance, he lived in Alliance all of his life. He retired from General Motors Lordstown, where he was employed as a welder and was a member of the U.A.W. Mr. Mercer was also a member of the William Penn. In his past-time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, metal art and carpentry. He survived by his two daughters, Monique Mercer of N. Canton and Jillian Mercer of Canton; four sons, Thomas C. Mercer, II of S. Carolina, Mark H. Mercer of Salem, Chad L. Mercer I of Alliance and Michael Mercer of Alliance; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Hawthorne of Homeworth and Christine Gehret of Alliance; a brother, Allen G. Mercer of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Karen Mercer on February 4. 2003; and his parents, Herman C. and Emma M. (Berlin) Mercer. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joseph A. Peters officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
