Thomas D. Farmer's Obituary
Thomas D. Farmer, 91, of Alliance, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Atria Assisted Living in Houston, Texas. He died peacefully in his sleep. He was born in Detroit, MI on April 29, 1913, and lived in Alliance most of his life. He was a graduate of Alliance High School and Mt. Union College (Class of 40). Football was a big part of his life, having played throughout high school and college. He was on the 1932 undefeated Aviator team and also played for 3 years for the Minerva Merchants, a semi-pro team. Mr. Farmer was employed by Ford Motor Co. as a Supervisor of Quality Control. He retired in 1974 and spent his newly found time doing the things he loved most: traveling the U.S. and Canada with his wife, Irene, fishing and boating, golf, and visiting his three grandchildren. He was a member of St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church and also a lifetime member of the Alliance Elks Club. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Pauline (Ron) Durant of Houston TX; grandchildren Tom, (wife Laura), Kathy (husband Johnny), Maureen; and four great grandchildren, all of Houston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene W. (Downing) Farmer on August 1, 2003, (they were married on May 8, 1935); and his parents, John and Alice (Nelson) Farmer. The family will receive friends at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 28, from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Gross, Jr. officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
