Susanna Pelger Mayer's Obituary
Susanna Pelger Mayer, 86, a resident of Bel Air Care Center in Alliance, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 9:15 p.m. She was born on October 5, 1921 in Mediasch, Transylvania, moving to Alliance in 1923. Susanna was a 1939 graduate of Alliance High School and also a graduate of the Hanna Mullins School of Nursing in Salem, Ohio. She resided in New Garden from 1949 to 1954 and moved to Hanoverton where she lived until 1963 before returning back to Alliance. Mrs. Mayer retired from Mt. Union College Medical Department where she was a Practical Nurse for over 30 years. She was a member of the Alliance Senior Citizens and enjoyed ballroom dancing. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Lynn Mayer of Nashville, TN; three sons, Donald Robert (Donna) Mayer of Cortland, OH, Dale Richard Mayer of Austintown, OH and Duane Frederick Mayer of Salem; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, Donald Clyde Mayer on April 6, 1962, whom she married on January 30, 1942; a son, David Martin Mayer; a granddaughter, Donna Sue Mayer; her parents, Martin and Susanna (Stein) Pelger; a sister, Hildegarde Lipsey; and two brothers, Robert M. Pelger and Martin H. Pelger. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m, with Barbara Deibel, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park in Alliance.
