Stanley Kertel's Obituary
Stanley Henry "Stan" Kertel, age 84, of Alliance, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017. He was born March 13, 1933 in Carrollton, Ohio to Steve and Marie (Kravos) Kertel.
Stan grew up in Bessemer, Pennsylvania and graduated from Bessemer High School in 1951. In 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, served two years of active duty primarily in Germany and was honorably discharged from the Reserves in 1961. He worked for the Metropolitan Paving and Brick Company in Bessemer and later at Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, Ohio where he retired after 37 years in 2000.
Among the many things he enjoyed were listening to polka music, especially the button-box variety, reading, and John Deere tractors. Stan was also a master craftsman, making both fine furniture and crafts for family and friends. He was also an avid fan of both the Indians, Cavs and Buckeyes.
Stan will be greatly missed by his many friends at Hartville Kitchen and the West State St. McDonalds, where he enjoyed meals, coffee and great conversation over the years.
Survivors include; wife Judy (Sayre); sister Josie Taylor of Dothan, Alabama; daughters Melissa Kertel of Alliance and Michele Mayle of Louisville; sons Brent Kertel of Canton and Shawn Kertel of Walnut Creek, California; grandchildren Dustin (Jamie) White, Morgan Kertel, Olivia Kertel and Noah Kertel; brother-in-laws Fred (Wanda) Sayre and Lou Pannunzio and many nieces and nephews. And Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Stephanie D’Amico, brother John Kertel, sister-in-law Janet Pannunzio and daughter-in-law Gayle (Sleighter) Kertel.
A family graveside ceremony is planned. Friends and neighbors are invited to a memorial service celebrating his life at Beacon of Hope Community Church, 1101 E. Main St, in Louisville, Ohio on Friday, November 10th from 6-8 PM, to include coffee and dessert.
