Sophia Dell Butner's Obituary
Sophia Dell Butner, 96, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at 4:40 p.m. at her home. She was born in Wartrace, Tennessee on December 24, 1905 and has lived in Alliance since 1925. She was employed by Alliance Manufacturing, where she retired in 1970 after 30 years of service, and attended the Lexington United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Frances M. Courtney of Alliance; two sons, Lester Butner of DeLand, Fla.; Lonnie Butner; of Alliance; 8 Grandchildren; 12 Great- Grandchildren; 14 Great-Great Grandchildren; a sister Jewell Coss of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lester Butner in 1983, (they were married on July 2, 1924); her parents, James Riley and Myrtle (Butner) Crick; two sisters, Rosaleen Fowler and Nellie Crick; and four brothers, Lonnie, James, Robert and Carl Crick. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, November 7, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, November 8, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Terry Baltzer and Rev. Ruby Cairns, officiating. Burial will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
