Sondra Craig 's Obituary
Sonnie Craig, 70, of Safety Harbor, Florida, formerly of Alliance, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 following an extended illness.
Born in Alliance on January 12, 1945 to Robert & Eva Hopkins, she was a 1963 graduate of Alliance High School and 1967 graduate of Mount Union College.
Her teaching career started at Colerain Elementary in Columbus, Ohio. Following her return to the Carnation City she taught at Garfield and McGregor Elementary in Canton, Ohio for 30 years and retired in 1999. Her encore included Brandon’s Hillcrest Market, The College Inn and the Timken Building at Mount Union College.
In her spare time she loved reading, music –especially the Beatles, American history, the Cleveland Indians and spending time with family and friends. She also volunteered at Pegasus Farms Equestrian Center for the disabled.
Sonnie was a loving mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to her two sons and was always involved with their sports, friends, PTO and AHS Mother’s Club.
She was a member of Union Avenue United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sons, Christopher (Carly) Craig, and Cass (Nicole) Craig; grandsons, Cole and Coby, all of Safety Harbor, FL; her sister, Myra (Mike) Zink; nieces, Rebecca (Joe) Eby and Samantha Zink; aunt, Jean Shaffer; and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
As per Sonnie’s wishes, cremation has taken place, with her interment to be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Visitation with family will take place at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 pm with Pastor Andrew Courtney (a cousin) of Bethany United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment at Fairmount Memorial Park will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to AHS Foundation Class of 1963 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3123, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
