Sandy McClain's Obituary
Sandra Ann (Accettola) McClain, 82, of Alliance, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 20, 1942, in Akron, she was the daughter of the late Jennie Accettola Caldwell. Sandy graduated from Alliance High School in 1960 and spent her life rooted in her community.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sandy is survived by her daughters, Christine (Chris) Pizzedaz of Alliance and Lori (Brian) Dickerhoof of Blackstock, South Carolina; grandchildren, Luke Skivolocke of Alliance, Louie (Celena) Skivolocke of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Jacob (Nicole) Arbogast of Louisville, Joey (Ally) Dickerhoof of Copley, and Tyler (Shelby) Dickerhoof of Alliance; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Rossalyn, Dawson, Blaire, Emmett, Nolan, and Beckett.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jennie; two beloved granddaughters, Gina Arbogast and Leah Skivolocke; and two special aunts, Chirinia and Jeanette Accettola.
Sandy was known for her incredible work ethic, spending over 30 years as a waitress at the Alliance Country Club, and more than a decade before that at Heggy’s in Alliance. She touched countless lives with her warmth, charm, and tireless service.
Outside of work, Sandy found joy in the simple things: cooking her favorite traditional Italian meals, spoiling her beloved dogs—Carmen, Maddie, and Molly—and spending time in her backyard garden, especially when she could share it with her grandson Luke. She loved playing card games with her dear friend and sister-in-law Barb, working on crossword puzzles and Sudoku, and never missed an episode of Jeopardy or Judge Judy. But above all, her greatest joy was her family. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, and her presence will be deeply missed at every gathering, large or small.
Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Her family will honor her memory privately, just as she wanted.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Sandy’s memory may consider planting a flower or sharing a home-cooked meal with someone they love—just as she so often did.
