Samuel E. Donohoe, Sr.'s Obituary
Samuel E. Donohoe, Sr., 92, of Alliance, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 3:35 p.m. at Alterra Sterling House of Alliance. Born on November 3, 1920 in Adena, OH, he lived in Alliance most of his life and was a graduate of Alliance High School. A veteran of WWII, he served our country in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 166. Sam attended the First Baptist Church and was active in the Salvation Army Alliance Citadel. He retired from the Riley Construction in Salem after 27 years of service, and was a 30 year member of Local 809. Mr. Donohoe was a life member of Dr. Roach Outdoor League where he served many years as a board member and secretary. The Clubhouse was named in honor of him for his 42 years as volunteer caretaker. In his past-time, he enjoyed watching Alliance High School basketball and football games and the University of Mount Union football games. He especially loved spending time at Dr. Roach Outdoor League. Survivors include his wife, Stella (Dillon) Donohoe whom he married on August 16, 1941; two sons, Sam (Janis) Donohoe, Jr. of Alliance and Greg (Sue) Donohoe of Alliance; five grandchildren, Ryan and Colby Donohoe of Alliance, Matthew Donohoe of Las Vegas, NV, Michael (Emma) Snider of Benecia, CA, and Becky (Ronn) Manhollan of Venitia, PA; five great-grandchildren, Cameron Donohoe, Gabriel Snider, Justin, Nicholas, and Stella Manhollan; brother, James "JD" Donohoe of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his parents, Charles R. and Rose (Ruble) Donohoe; four sisters, Edna Ungaro, Eleanor George, Edith Fisher, and Margaret Donohoe; and three brothers, Charles "Boob", George "Jake", and Bill Donohoe. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. His memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Rhodes of First Baptist Church officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036. Arrangements include cremation.
