Samuel Brooks' Obituary
Samuel E. Brooks, 79, of Alliance, was reunited with his wife on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10:05 am at Altercare of Alliance.
Born on July 6, 1945 in Canton to Edward and Avis (Trish) Brooks, he lived in Alliance most of his life.
A graduate of Canton McKinley High School, he served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post #166.
Samuel was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Sam was employed as a security guard at the former Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Mill until his retirement. He previously served on the Alliance Police Department as a Police Officer and Detective and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #73.
Samuel loved all sports including The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Raiders.
Sam coached Hot Stove Baseball for many years and took great pride in coaching his son's and grandson's teams.
During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and watching Crime and Drama and Police shows. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports and other school activities.
Survivors include his daughter, Kelli Berry of Alliance; son, Samuel Brooks, II of Alliance; three grandchildren, Mackenzie Berry, Jadyn Brooks, Brooke (Brian) Moore; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brylee Moore; four sisters, Geraldine Brooks of Alliance, Shirley Brooks of Alliance, Kathy Davidson of Alliance and Patricia Hodnick of Massillon; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Laura A. (Haynes) Brooks, whom he married on September 17, 1974 and who died on December 13, 2020; his grandson, Christian Berry; son-in-law, Ray Berry; his parents; an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth; a sister, Delores "Dee" Keoshian; and his brother-in-law, Richard Hodnick.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. His Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 am.
Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
