Russell Dowdy's Obituary
Russell Dowdy, Sr., 75, of Alliance, died on Friday, April 2, 2004, at Alliance Community Hospital. Born in Ashland, Ky, on July 26, 1928, he had lived in Alliance most of his life. He was a veteran of the u.S. Army serving in the Korean War and had retired as a truck driver. He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Grantz and Pearlie Fish; three sons, James Henry Dowdy, Vincent Allen Dowdy, and Walter Lee Dowdy; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren, all of Alliance. Preceding him in death was his wife, Mattie Ellen (Barker) Dowdy on July 15, 1991; a son, Cape Russell Dowdy; his parents, Caperton and Alabama (Blyth) Dowdy; a sister, Gladys Marie Barker; and three brothers, Alonzo, James, and John Franklin Dowdy. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7- 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jimmie Holbrook officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
