Roy Bates, Jr.'s Obituary
Roy Bates, Jr., 70, of Alliance, died on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. at his home. He was born on March 28, 1941 in Steubenville, OH, and lived in Alliance most of his life. Roy retired from Transue and Williams after 45 years of service, where he was employed as a heater. Mr. Bates coached Hot Stove Baseball for several years and was a member of F.O.E. 2199 in Minerva. In his past-time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching nascar. He is survived by his wife, Terri (Haymaker) Bates whom he married on June 1, 1984; two daughters, Kathy L. Bourne of Alliance and Sloan M. (James) Geer of Alliance; three sons, Leroy S. Bates of Alliance, Brian S. (Angela) Bates of Homeworth and Todd R. Kerr of Louisville; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Elsie Virden of Salem, Valorie (Roger) Roessler of N. Jackson, Alberta (Gerald) McPherson of Alliance, and Myrna (Roger) Dulaney of Alliance; two brothers, Leonard (Sabrina) Bates of Alliance, and Donald (Ellen) Bates of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy E. and Isabelle Mae (Monseau) Bates; an infant sister, Ruby Mae Bates and a brother, Albert L. Bates. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, September 12, 2011 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roger Dulaney of Calvary Baptist Church in Salem, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
