Ronald B. Zaina's Obituary
Ronald B. Zaina, 69, of Alliance, died on Saturday, November 16, 2002, at 11:45 p.m. at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Born in Alliance, on March 17, 1933, he had lived in Alliance all of his life. A 1951 graduate of Alliance High School, he was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He retired from the Alliance Machine Co. as a proposal engineer after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Board of Directors and was Treasurer of the Alliance Machine Credit Union, and was also a vice president of the AFL-CIO Labor Council and a life member of the Iron and Steel Engineers. After his retirement, he received further education from Salem Technical School and from Kent State University and became a drafting teacher at Washington High School in Massillon where he had taught for 10 years. A member of the Ohio Educational Association and many other educational associations, he was a member of the Ohio Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, and the State Teachers Retirement System. A former City Councilman, Mr. Zaina served as a former Chairman of the Alliance Civil Service Commission, the Alliance Area Democratic Club where he was a past president. He was also a former Board Member of the Alliance Area United Way. A member of the B.P.O. Elks #467, he was the 1984-85 recipient of their "Man of the Year" award. He belonged to the American Legion Post 166, the Dante Alighieri Society, and the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl A. and David Bernardo of Massillon, Julie L. and Rick Moll of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Lisa M. Zaina of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren, Joseph, Nicholas, and Samuel Bernardo, Kyle and Rachel Moll; a sister, Marie Kordes of Rest on, VA, and loving friend, Norma Springer of Sebring. Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Louise "Boots" (Sineri) Zaina on May 16, 1997 (whom he married on August 28, 1954) and his parents, John C. and Susan (Pastier) Zaina. Friends may call at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20, 2002, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be a B.P.O. Elk service preceding at 5:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Thursday, November 21, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. J. Patrick Manning as celebrant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
