Robert "Skeeter" McGowan's Obituary
Robert "Skeeter" McGowan, 69, of Alliance, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 12:01 am at Alliance Community Hospital. Skeeter was born on April 5, 1945 in Alliance, Ohio and lived in Alliance all of his life. He was a 1963 graduate of Alliance High School. Skeeter had been employed at B & W Tubular Products for many years and retired as an Inspector from PTC Alliance in 2004 after 37 years of total service. He served our country in the Ohio National Guard from 1965 - 1971. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks, Lodge #467 Alliance, OH 44601. Skeeter s life was focused on "3 F s"; Faith, Family and Football. He was bold about his faith, sharing his faith as often as he could. Family meant everything to him, and he cherished attending his grandsons sporting & school events. He was also a fanatic Ohio State fan to the extent that he could quote statistics on command. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Judy Ann (Dean) McGowan, whom he married on September 10, 1966; his daughter, DeAnn M. (Louie) Zavarelli of Alliance, OH; two grandsons, Joey Zavarelli & Christian Zavarelli; two sisters, Emmabelle (Gene) Peterson of Homeworth, OH, and Bonnie Irwin of Beloit, OH; brother-in-law, Ron (Sue) Dean of Alliance, OH; niece, Beth (Rick) Baltes of Roxboro, NC; three nephews, Chris (Sarah) Dean of Minerva, OH, Tom (Kimberly) Firth of Lake Worth, FL & Mike (Kathy) Irwin of Alliance; three great-nephews, Zachary Firth, Owen Baltes, & Ryan Baltes; great-niece, Sophia Dean; many cousins; and a host of friends. He was also very attached to his grand-puppies. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph F. McGowan; his parents, Ford & Louise Shane; his father and mother in-law, Reuben & Rose Dean; a sister, Louise Firth; a niece, Sandy McMahon; and a nephew, Frank Firth. A B.P.O. Elks Service will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 5:30 pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Demetrios Mittas of Faith Family Church in North Canton, OH, officiating. Private Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will take place at Fairmount Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.
