Robert A. Lenz's Obituary
Robert A. Lenz, age 81, of Alliance, passed away Sunday morning, March 6, 2005, at Alliance Community Hospital. A life-long resident of Alliance, he was born on April 15, 1923, the only child of August and Florence Effie (Abegglen) Lenz. Mr. Lenz graduated from Alliance High School in the Class of 1941, and then took additional studies at Kent State University. He belonged to the First United Presbyterian Church of Alliance for over 50 years. Mr. Lenz worked at the Alliance Ware for 13 years, and retired from the Alliance Machine Co. as shipping clerk and timekeeper after 30 years of service. Mr. Lenz was interested in blimps and was a member of the Lighter-Than-Air Society and The Helium Heads. He was also a member of the Monday Lunch Alliance Machine Retirees group, Alliance Senior Center, the National Woodcarvers Association, and a former member of the Hall of Fame Woodcarvers. He is survived by Virginia (Maldoven) Lenz, his wife of 51 years, and his two sons, Bruce (Lillian) Lenz of Canton, and Brian (Lu Ann) Lenz, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and two grandsons, David Brian Lenz and Adam Lee Lenz, also of Raleigh. Other survivors include his mother-in-law Pauline Maldoven, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and Robert Hannah. Mr. Lenz is also survived by four first cousins, Richard James of Magnolia, Alan Abegglen of Lexington, Ky, Barbara Holler of Toledo, and Sally Abegglen Dolovy of Warren. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Sharer Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m., with the Rev. William J. Sadler officiating. Internment will follow at the Fairmount Memorial Park.
