Robert "Leroy" Congrove, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert "Leroy" Congrove, Sr., 94, of Alliance, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Bel Air Care Center in Alliance. He was born on August 21, 1916 in Wellsville, Ohio and lived in Alliance since 1941. He attended the Wellsville Public Schools. A veteran of World War II, he served our country in the U. S. Army. He retired in 1978 from Transue & Williams, where he was employed as a Brick Layer after 40 years of service. Mr. Congrove was a member of T&W Retiree s #160, the Alliance Area Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the 60 Plus Club at Alliance Friends Church. In his past-time, he enjoyed traveling to Tennessee. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Brown) Congrove of 71 years, to whom he married on August 20, 1939; two daughters, Georgia Fluharty of Wintersville, OH and Mary Wervey of Zanesville, OH; a son, Robert L. "Bud" Congrove, Jr. of Alliance, OH; five grandchildren, Christine Weaver, Donna Taylor, Lisa Karamonolis, Jack Fluharty II, & Aran Wervey; eleven great-grandchildren, Josh & Jackie Weaver, Sean & Shonna Taylor, Seth Fluharty, Brice Austin, Kaitlyn & Devon Wervey, and Jack III & Brandon Fluharty; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Clyde and Mary Magdaline (Clutter) Congrove; four sisters, Evelyn Congrove, Gaynell Erwin, Deloris Adams and Laura Mae Higgins; and five brothers, Clifford Congrove, Harold Congrove, Howard Congrove, Wilbur Congrove and Clyde Congrove The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, March 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rick Sams officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
