Robert "Rob" Ciari's Obituary
Robert "Rob" Ciari, 79, of Alliance, died on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at 8:15 a.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on October 22, 1929 in Denver, Colorado, and lived in Alliance for the last 22 years of his life. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served as Seaman First Class during WWII. He served on the USS Jason in the China Sea and was issued the WWII Victory Medal. He gained experience in the Navy as a Radio Man, and spent his entire career working in the communications industry. Rob worked as an Air Traffic Controller at the Junea, Alaska Airport. He also worked for the Western Electric Company in Greenland on the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line. Ultimately, after 28 years of service, Rob retired from AT&T in 1982 as an installation supervisor. Mr. Ciari was a member of Telephone Company Pioneers. In his past-time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Rob s passion was Ham Radio, and his last call sign, now a silent key, was N8IQA. He also enjoyed drawing cartoons and was published in the Alliance Review. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Cook) Ciari whom he married on April 29, 1973; five sons, Michael of Nevada, Mark (Sandie), Robert, Randall and Brian Ciari of CA, two daughters, Cyndi (Scott) Saranik and Susan Ciari, both of CA; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James Ciari of Denver, CO; three sisters-in-law, Ellie Ciari of Denver, CO, Carol Marconi and Lu Rhoads of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Nello and Louise (Siegman) Ciari; one brother, Walt Ciari; and niece Lenny Ciari. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald Feicht of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, and the U.S. Navy, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
