Richard E. Pinkerton's Obituary
Richard E. Pinkerton, 76, of Alliance, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 7:19 p.m. at Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on October 31, 1930, in Alliance, and lived in Alliance all of his life. A 1948 graduate of Alliance High School, he was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Mr. Pinkerton was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Richard was formerly employed at B & W Research, and later was a Union Carpenter for 52 years out of Carpenter s Local 69 in Akron where he was a life member and past treasurer. Mr. Pinkerton was a member of the SNPJ Slovene Society and was an adult swimming instructor for the Alliance Red Cross for many years. He took pride in his 1976 El Dorado Cadillac convertible, driving many dignitaries in the Carnation Parades. Richard had many enjoyments in life, including his daily crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially pinochle. In the past he enjoyed yearly bicycle trips to Youngstown, outdoor sports, including boating, water skiing, and swimming with his children. He is survived by his wife, Frances A. (Rogel) Pinkerton whom he married on May 1, 1954; three daughters, Beverly A. (Walt) Mummert of Alliance, Lynne L. Platten of Alliance, and Kathy Jo (Duane) Frantz of Tryon, NC; three sons, Robert A. (Joann) Pinkerton of Alliance, James J. (Sherri) Pinkerton of Alliance, and Richard F. Pinkerton of Canton; ten grandchildren, Walter Mummert III, Dawn Mummert, Lauren Platten, Austin Hamilton, Nicole Frantz, Mark Frantz, Douglas Pinkerton, Daniel Pinkerton, Jill Pinkerton and Ashlyn Pinkerton; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Elizabeth (Hagge) Pinkerton; grandparents, Ed and Elizabeth Pinkerton and grandparents, John and Theresa Hagge. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Sunday, March 18, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Monday, March 19, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Donald L. Feicht, as celebrant. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
