Richard Merle Messenheimer's Obituary
Richard Merle Messenheimer, 80, of 1402 E. Beech St., died on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 5:20 a.m. at his home. Born in Sebring on September 24, 1921, he had lived in the Alliance area for all his life. A PFC in the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the European Theatre. A self employed carpenter by trade, he had attended Alliance High School and served as a Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of the First Church of God, the Carpenter's Local Union No. 239 and the Knox Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Hopkins) Messenheimer, whom he married on November 18, 1945; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Ann Messenheimer of Avon Lake; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and James Moreland of Avon Lake; daughter and son-in-law Major Janice Messenheimer and Major Glenn Courtney of Navarre; six grandchildren, David and John Messenheimer, Jennifer and Janice Moreland and Allison and Andrew Courtney. Preceding him in death were his parents, Erma (Morehead) and Homer Sheckler; a daughter, Nancy Ann Messenheimer; and two brothers, Rolland and Robert Messenheimer. Funeral services were held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Monday, March 4, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Jordan officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Fairmount Memorial Park. Calling hours were held at the funeral home on Sunday, March 3, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
