Richard A. Hahlen's Obituary
Richard Allen "Dick" Hahlen, 84, of Alliance, died on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 5:00 a.m. at his home. Born on October 11, 1925 in Alliance, Richard lived here all of his life and was a graduate of Alliance High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 18 and served during WWII. Dick was a real estate appraiser for the Ohio Department of Transportation and retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036, the William Penn Club and the Ohio Public Employees Retirees Association. He was an avid sports enthusiast, but he especially loved playing golf. Dick is survived by his wife, Dolores M. (Haidet) Myers Hahlen; a daughter, Shelly Hahlen of Phoenix, AZ; a step-daughter, Darlene (Bill) Faulkner of N. Georgetown; seven step-sons, Michael L. Myers of Alliance, Mitchell L. Myers of Alliance, Craig D. Myers of Akron, Brian D. (Sue) Myers of Alliance, Patrick W. (Sue) Myers of Alliance, Joseph G. (Debbie) Myers of Alliance and John M. (Scottie) Myers of Alliance; eight grandchildren, a great-grandchild; sixteen step-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Claire Lee Hahlen of Alliance; and Latif Chahine, who loved him like a father. Preceding him in death was an infant son, Larry Hahlen; a son, William R. Hahlen; his parents, William G. and Lida (Stevens) Hahlen; and two brothers, William S. and Jack L. Hahlen. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, June 18, 2010 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, June 18, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jack Dawson of John Knox Presbyterian Church in N. Canton officiating. Entombment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
