Richard O. "Dick" Funk's Obituary
Richard O. "Dick" Funk, 70, of Alliance, died on Friday, October 7, 2005, at 12:55 p.m., at Altercare of Alliance. Born in Alliance on September 8, 1935, he was a graduate of Alliance High School and had lived here most of his life. Mr. Funk served our country in the U. S. Marines, the U. S. Navy, the Ohio Army National Guard, and retired from the U. S. Army. He had been previously employed at Alliance Wholesalers for many years and had retired from Lakeland Millwork in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1036, the Roma Society and the Roma Golfing League. He enjoyed gardening and was and avid golfer and bowler. He also was a coin collector and a stein collector. He is survived by his wife, Connie (Betts) Funk, whom he married on July 19, 1969; two daughters, Jeanine (Adam) Reed of Alliance and Tracy (Joe) Toussant of Louisville; two sons, Allan Funk of Atlanta, Georgia and Larry (April) Kraft of Homeworth; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn and Gloria, both of Alliance; two brothers, Ronald and Robert, both of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Wilson; a son, John Kraft; a grandson, Shawn Kraft; his parents, Ralph and Margaret (Buckel) Funk; and two sisters, Gertrude and Mildred. The family will receive friends at the Southside Church of God on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dave Storlie, officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Highland Memorial Park. The Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home is in charge of services.
