Raymond P. "Ray" Valentine's Obituary
Raymond P. "Ray" Valentine, 90, of Maximo, died at St. Joseph Care Center in Louisville on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, (his late wife's birthday). Born in Warren, Ohio, on April 2, 1912, he had lived all of his life in the Alliance area. Mr. Valentine was the former owner of Valentine Enterprises for 50 years. He retired from General Motors Lordstown Plant and was a member of the VAW. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Maximo and was a member of their Parish Council for 40 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #558 and was a Past Faithful Navigator. A member of the B.P.0. Elks Lodge #467, he was also a member of the Alliance Senior Center and their Swinging Sixties club. Mr. Valentine is survived by two daughters, Betty Valentine of Canton and Juanita Schillig of Bettendorf, Iowa; eleven sons, Virgil P., Jerry, Richard, Regis, and Jim, all of Alliance, Ray of Canton, Steve and Wayne of North Canton, Eugene of New Philadelphia, Hal of Beverly Hills, CA., and Dennis of Louisville; 38 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Iannucci of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth M. (Brown) Valentine on July 18, 1994; his parents, Massimo and Sophia (Cerfirne) Valentini; two sisters, Mary Harvey and Helen Harlow; a brother, Sam Valentine; a daughter-in-law Joyce Valentine (wife of Jerry); two grandchildren, Tim Valentine (son of Gene), and Carl Schillig (son of Juanita Schillig). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maximo on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Ungashick as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Maximo. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Friday, July 19, 2002, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Knights of Columbus Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 9:00 p.m.
