Raymond A. Butler's Obituary
Raymond A. Butler, 88, of Alliance, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. at Canterbury Villa of Alliance. Born on August 22, 1925 in Alliance, he lived in Alliance all of his life. He was a graduate of Alliance High School and Mount Union College. A veteran of World War II, he served our country in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boxer. Mr. Butler was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a charter member of St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Board of Directors, where he had served as President of the Board for many, many years. Raymond previously owned and operated Butler Construction Company, later Alliance Asphalt Paving, until his recent retirement. Mr. Butler was a member of the Alliance Rotary Club, Alliance Lions Club, Alliance B.P.O. Elks, the American Legion, the Alliance Republican Club and the Exchange Club. In his past-time, he enjoyed dancing with his wife Vera and caring for his beloved pets. Survivors include a son, James (Cheryl) Butler of Fort Myers, FL; two grandchildren, Randall Butler of Ann Arbor, MI and Marisa Butler of Columbus, OH; a sister-in-law, Rena Gatien of Alliance; a brother-in-law, Ronald Alfani of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Vera E. Butler on June 1, 2011, whom he married on August 20, 1947; his parents, Raymond W. and Agnes (Webster) Butler; and three sisters, Eleanor, Mary and Betty. The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Chapel on Monday, October 28, 2013, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Matthew M. Mankowski officiating Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
