Paul G. Halverstadt's Obituary
Paul G. Halverstadt, 68, of Alliance, died on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 1:51 p.m. in the Emergency Room at Alliance Community Hospital. Born on March 26, 1943 in Alliance, Ohio, he had lived in Alliance all of his life. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A 1961 graduate of Alliance High School, he had also attended Ohio State University. He had served our country in the U.S. Army Reserves. Paul had been in the Restaurant business practically all of his life. He had owned or managed 32 restaurants during his career. He retired as owner & operator of Paul s Pub & Grill at Portage Lakes in Akron. He had previously owned the former Paul s Supper Club in downtown Alliance and was also a former manager of the German-American Club in Akron. Paul loved playing the accordion and had his own very popular band, The Paul Halverstadt Band, which had performed in the area for many years; most recently every Wednesday at the Polish-American Citizen s Club in Canton. He was a member of the Trentino Alpine Club of Alliance and was President of the Brown s Backers Club of Alliance. Survivors are his mother, Ella M. (Giovanini) Halverstdat of Alliance; a sister, Glenda Zimmerman of Alliance; and his loving dog, Chole Preceding him in death was his father, Glenn Halverstadt. As per Paul s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Howard Ziemba and the Rev. Fr. Louis Santucci, as con-celebrants. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
