Paul B. Burns' Obituary
Paul B. Burns, 57, of Alliance, died on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at 12:10 a.m. at his home surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 9, 1953 in Alliance, he was a lifetime resident here. A 1971 graduate of Alliance High School, he was also a graduate of Kent State University. He was a U. S. Army Veteran and had also served in the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Post #166. Mr. Burns was employed with Volcanic Heater for 32 years as their Business Manager until his recent illness. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. Paul is survived by his mother, Kathryn (Dobson) Burns Vandal of Alliance; three sisters, Bobbie Jo Burns, Tina (Dickie) Vandal and Linda Burns, all of Alliance; a brother, Mark (Gay Ann) Burns of Alliance; a brother-in-law, Tom Hathaway of Hartville; four nieces, Rebecca Walker, Sonya (Matt) Moretta, Tammi Benning and Christine Fernandez; five nephews, Robert Ferguson, Chris (Charlene) Burns, Doug Vandal, Steve (Mandy) Vandal, and Tony Burns; several great nieces & nephews; one aunt; one uncle; and numerous cousins. Preceding him in death was his father, Robert J. Burns on Sept 5, 1985; his step-father, Leman L. "Dick" Vandal on July 6, 2010; and a sister, Denise Carver on June 29, 2010. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. Interment, with military honors provided by the Alliance American Legion Post 166 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1036, will follow at Alliance City Cemetery.
