Olwen Mae (Williams) (Craven) Evans' Obituary
Olwen Mae Evans, died peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 8:30 a.m. at her home. She passed away with the same courage and grace with which she lived her life. Born in Abercynon, South Wales, November 14, 1912, to Frank and Jane (Morgan) Williams, she came to America at the age of nine months, along with her mother, her brother, Idris (Eddie) Williams, and her aunt, Lillian (Morgan) Jones. Her dad, Frank, had come ahead to Alliance to work as a machinist at Alliance Machine, the shop he worked at for the next 47 years. Olwen graduated from Alliance High School where she sang a solo at her baccalaureate. Olwen sang solos at many events, winning prizes with her beautiful voice. A loyal member of the First Baptist Church for over 80 years, she was a charter member of the Fireside Class, participated in many activities there, and sang in the choir. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Church Women United, Women s Music Club, Board of Elections, and the Senior Citizens Center. She loved and cared for her family and loved to travel. She kept a strong connection to her Welsh relatives, leaving a rich heritage for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and faithful brother, Eddie; her first husband, Eugene Dale Craven in December 1943; her second husband, Edward D. Evans in March 1991; and her dear friend, Lowell Hoffman in August 2005. She is survived by two daughters, Elsa (Craven) (Lynn) Ferris of San Jose, CA and Eileen (Craven) (John) Whitehair of the home; two stepsons; David Evans of CA, and Tim (Susan) Evans of Winterberry, MI; four grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gordon Thomas officiating. Interment will take place at Alliance City Cemetery. Olwen s family would like to thank Alliance Hospice for their gentle care and support.
