Octave "Ockie" Grecu's Obituary
Octave "Ockie" Grecu, 82, of Alliance, died on Sunday morning, November 7, 2004 at his home. Born in Alliance on July 5, 1922 he lived all his life in Alliance. A 1941 graduate of Alliance High School, he graduated from Mount Union College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business. Mr. Grecu was a U.S. Army veteran and had served during World War II as a Sergeant in the 16th Armoured Division in Central Europe. Octave was a member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #558 and was a Past Grand Knight. He also was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Bowling League and served as their secretary for over 55 years. Mr. Grecu retired from the American Steel Foundries as their supply agent after 23 years of service. He was also formerly employed at Wilson Fuel and Supply Company and at the Alliance First National Bank. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, the Stark County Purchasing Agents Association and was inducted into the Alliance Men s Bowling Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Giovanelli) Grecu (whom he married September 4, 1948); a daughter, Patti (Stanley) Ware of Alliance; two grandchildren, Matt and LeAnne; a sister, Goldie Songer of Alliance; and a niece, Karen (Keith) Blaser. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zacheiu and Elizabeth (Diac) Grecu; and a brother, Jack Grecu. The family will receive friends at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. A K of C prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Seifert as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
