Norma J. (Hunt) Fagan's Obituary
Norma J. (Hunt) Fagan, 81, passed into Paradise on Friday, September 19, 2014. Formerly of 350 S. Arch Ave., Mrs. Fagan was a resident of at Community Care Center at the time of her passing. Born on August 20, 1933 in Canton, Ohio to Brady Herbert and Blanche Lucille (Misner) Hunt, she was the sixth child born in a family of 10 children. On May 18, 1937, at the age of 3 , she was placed at the Fairmount Children s Home along with 5 older siblings. She and her older siblings were separated and placed in different cottages according to age and gender. As she grew, she knew her siblings, but considered all 600 plus children as part of her family. She attended Fairmount schools until entering Alliance High School. During her formal education she was a member of the Fairmount Children s Home marching band and the Alliance High School marching band. Graduating in 1950 with honors from AHS, she received a scholarship to Mount Union College. Her musical talents included the piano, clarinet A and B, flute and percussion instruments. As a child, the Fairmount band traveled across the state to entertain at fairs, fireman s picnics and a variety of community celebrations. She married Robert LaSalle Fagan on January 25, 1953 at the First Christian Church. Her Maid of Honor was her sister, Mary Alice (Hunt) Duro. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a sales associate for Art s Jewelers in downtown Alliance. Later, she became co-owner and secretary for R. Fagan Roofing. As a mother of 7 children, she served as den mother to a number of Cub Scout troops, was a parent volunteer at St. Joseph Catholic School, and was active in the handicapped children s bowling league. Reflective of her lifelong love of music, she enjoyed collecting music boxes and bells. She was an avid reader. She was an enthusiastic Bingo player. She loved bird watching and enjoyed caring for animals that found their way to her door. In 1967, she completed the Dale Carnegie course, "How to Win Friends and Influence People", and was active in Toastmistress for many years. As a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she hosted a number of guests from St. Joseph s sister parish in Pennsylvania. And for many years, she was active in the women s faith based group. Norma is survived by her daughter, Amy C. (William, III) Flynn of Black River, NY; three sons, Franklin C. (Freda) Fagan of Alliance, OH, Matthew J. (Lori) Fagan of Alliance, OH, James H. (Marilyn) Fagan of Alliance, OH; daughter-in-law, Pam Fagan of Alliance, OH; son-in-law, Paul Duncan of Salineville, OH; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Richard Hunt of DesPlanes, IL and Robert Hoyle of Canton, OH; sister-in-law, Gisela Fagan; two brothers-in-law, Nicholas Amanatides of Canton and Richard Lacher of Alliance; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert LaSalle Fagan, son, Robert W. Fagan; three daughters, Paula Fagan, Tara C. Eaton and Susan Duncan. Daughter-in-law, Maryanne Fagan; infant granddaughter, Rosie Flynn of Black River, NY; infant great-grandchildren, Olivia Schmid and Evan Krietzer, both of Sebring and Jacob Duncan of Salineville; Her parents, Brady Herbert Cramer Hunt of Coffeeville, KS and Blanche Lucille (Misner Hunt-Hoyle of Canton; and step-father, William Hoyle of Canton. Also preceding are two brothers, Harold and Herbert Hunt of Chicago, IL; sisters, Nora Eileen Huberty, Merle Amanatides, Mary Alice Carter, Rosemary Best all of Canton, and Patricia Post of Massillon; sister-in-law, Ruby L. Hunt of Mesa AR., have all been called to be with our Lord. In addition, nephews, Police Officer Norman Duro of Alliance, Paul and Charles Huberty and Earl Vore of Canton, Rockwell Hunt of Chicago IL, Patrick Fagan of Alliance and a nephew-in-law, Michael Patterson of Alliance. Also passing into Glory were her mother and father-in-law, Warren and Emma (Warren) Fagan, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Brent "Jr." Fagan, Alfred Fagan, Bettie Lacher and Mary Mulheman, all of Alliance, Hilda (Milton) Parker of Columbus and Douglas (Mary) of Cleveland. The family will receive friends at Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home (day & time to be announced). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church (day & time to be announced). Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family would like to thank ICU, PCU, ACH ER, all the staff at Community Care and Hospice for the loving care & kindness shown our mother.
